Britain is a brilliant place in which to take a vacation. The reasons for this include a diverse history and equally diverse countryside. The kinds of vacations available is astonishing with such a enormous choice of destinations each of which have different opportunities and scenery which range from areas with numerous mountains to mainly flat areas.  In the following article I take a look at the seaside and suggest the seaside town of Southport, in England’s North West, as the most suitable seaside vacation destination in the UK.

Located on the English North West coast, Southport places to visit include, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Churchtown village, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, Southport Pier, Hesketh Park and more.

Lord Street, Southport

Lord Street is the main street in Southport.  All the way along one side of Lord Street the broad pavement are covered by superb Victorian iron work together with a line of deciduous trees closer to the road. Over on the other side of the street you will find  hugely colourful flower gardens and small gardens, pools and fountains and a superb Victorian bandstand. At the centre of Lord Street is most probably the most bold war monuments in the land with a centrally placed obelisk and 2 further monuments on either side which feature huge columns. It is along Lord Street that you will find some of the finest architecture in Southport and it is where you will discover the enchanting Wayfarers’ Arcade.

Parks & Gardens

Hesketh Park

At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family and like Lord Street it is heavily wooded. Hesketh Park also has wonderful flower beds, hidden gardens, a play park, glass house and more however most prominent is the wonderful lake.

Churchtown’s Botanic Gardens

Another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens, are to be found in Churchtown which has a a long stretch of still water which appears like a river which features a bridge, boating, swans, ducks and other wildlife plus if you enjoy animals and birds the park also has a small zoo, just in front of the museum and cafe. Churchtown village itself is a beautiful collection of old cottages, fishermen’s cottages and houses mostly white and some of them feature a roof of thatch. It is vitally important that you explore on foot and that you are not afraid to peer around corners becaus there are one or two hidden gems well worth the work to discover.
