There is no dearth of camping locations across America. The craze for camping out has only grown over the last two years with both fitness and New Age gurus speaking emphatically about the importance of spending time with Nature. Going from your workplace and home air-conditioning to hotel-room air-conditioning can never match the experience of spending your holidays beneath a star-studded sky.

If you are a first-time camper do look for a location near your home. This is more for security reasons as, in case of a problem, help will be more easily accessible. Even otherwise, whether you’re camping out alone, with family or friends, check on the security measures at a campground. This should be your first priority even before you decided on a camping holiday.

You can consider the cost factor next. You have to pay an admission fee and camping fee at most camping locations. Usually, campgrounds that are extremely popular but those with extra activity offered at the camping site will charge extra in the admission fee itself.

Many camping locations are specially oriented for families and groups with children. So, there will be many hobby classes on astronomy, Nature etc. You can also look for sites near lakes and rivers if you want to go boating and swimming. Some camping locations are set up for those on a cycling or hiking tour wanting to make a brief stopover. So, you can plan your holiday the other way round also and use only a few days for camping out while spending the rest on cycling or hiking.

Maybe, you don’t intend to camp out much and are doing it on friends’ insistence or haven’t made up your mind yet. In that case, buying camping equipment like tents, campfire cooking items, flashlights etc can be an unnecessary purchase. You can choose camping locations where they let you borrow these things on a small payment.

At some camping locations you can have the added advantage of choosing your own site but at others you will be assigned one. Many camping locations have their own websites too and you can run an Internet search to help you decide better.
